With more than 25 years of service in the House of Representatives and the Senate and 10 years as Senate Democratic Leader, Sen. Tom Daschle has played an instrumental role in the development of U.S. legislative and regulatory policy relating to health care.

Daschle is a Special Public Policy Advisor in Alston & Bird's Washington, D.C. office. He a founder, along with George Mitchell, Bob Dole and Howard Baker, of the Bipartisan Policy Center. He is a Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress and serves on a number of boards of directors. He is also a public speaker.

He is the co-author of the book, Critical, What We Can Do About The Health Care Crisis and has written numerous articles on health care for many newspapers and periodicals.

RE: Who Will Manage Health Reform Once It Is Passed?

I am pleased to see the thoughtful responses so far this week. I would like to respond with a few comments. Some contributors are concerned that a Federal Health Board will result in a health care system comprised of unaccountable board members and government run health care. This simply is not the case.   Let me be clear.  I am not proposing one-size-fits-all health care.  But I am proposing some reasonable standards for the system.  Imagine how much chaos would ensue if we had local and varying standards for airline safety and rules of the road.  We simply have to do better at…  Read more
