Health Care: Commissioners Leave Toughest Medical Loss Ratio Calls to HHS

• "State insurance commissioners can check a major task off their list after unanimously passing a final model for the new health care law's medical loss ratio," CongressDaily (subscription) reports. "But now the Health and Human Services Department must quickly address thorny tax and implementation questions before it issues a final rule."

Sally Pipes, a former Canadian, is an economist who specializes in health care issues. She writes, debates, speaks, is interviewed on radio and television, and gives invited testimony at the federal level on health care reform. Topics include the false promise of a single-payer system as exists in Canada, solving the problem of the uninsured, and strategies for lowering costs. She has debated Professor Paul Krugman of Princeton and Dr. David Himmelstein of Harvard Medical School.

Pipes's latest book is The Top Ten Myths of American Health Care: A Citizen's Guide (2008) with a foreword by Steve Forbes. Her earlier book is Miracle Cure: How to Solve America's Health Care and Why Canada Isn't the Answer (2004) with a foreword by Milton Friedman.
